Securing your community platform

Login options & content viewing

There are a number of options to secure a praxLearn™ Community platform (note this demo site uses option 2 below):

  1. Access is only for logged in members: all content on the site can only be viewed when a user is logged in
  2. Access is for everyone with sections of the site secured only for members:  non-logged in members can view the site but options are set giving access only to members for group membership, various events,  profile viewing and, where required, specific files etc. Unless a group is ‘public‘ access to groups is always restricted to the members of that group
  3. Access is provided only for members already logged in to your courses platform or third-party site – this option usually requires additional setup to allow Single Sign On (SSO) unless your third-party site is hosted by praxMatrix or a praxLearn courses platform.
  4. Options also exist for ‘fine-tuning’ content access in cases where you want to protect a file, single page or post with a password or restrict access to either members or administrators.

The options 1-3 are usually set when the platform is being installed for you option 4 can be set when files are uploaded or created.

General and technical security

praxLearn™ also provides technical security for the platform that consists of:

  1. regular updates to ensure that the platform is free of vulnerabilities
  2. daily off-site backups of files and databases: fast reinstall of a compromised site if required
  3. real-time  security surveillance for data attacks
  4. real-time banning of users or bots trying to login to the site using fake credentials or trying to access sensitive core files. Option to ban by IP address and country if required (for example you only want users within your company IP range or in your country to access the site)
  5. uptime monitoring to ensure that your site is up and running at all times
  6. daily file scanning to ensure that the platform’s files are clean of viruses and malware
